Dark Enchantment, Ayahuasca, and Luce with Rod Dreher
My latest podcast episode premieres tonight at 5pm
I just wanted to let you all know that I recorded a 90 minute conversation with Rod Dreher this morning. I have it loaded and ready to go for the premiere this evening at 5pm EST on YouTube. The link is HERE.
It felt great to get into it with my old podcast partner. We had a podcast for the better part of three years called The General Eclectic, but we broke up the band in the wake of his parting with The American Conservative and his move to Budapest.
I think you’ll enjoy this wide-ranging conversation. Part of the reason I cajoled him into doing the podcast was that I knew Rod to be funny and quirky, while his personae on his blog often came across as dour and a bit “pants-on-fire”.
I get the sense that some of my Twitter readers think the same thing about me. Yes, I am worried about a myriad of things, and I do not hesitate to point out problems as I see them. But I actually enjoy myself on these platforms, and I sleep very well at night.
So, let me know what you think of my latest episode of The Underneath podcast, and please share this post.
We cover ayahuasca and the Sohrab Ahmari essay, the state of the elections, and the Vatican’s latest promotion of Luce, a doll for the upcoming jubilee year. The Luce conversation begins at the 1:19:19 mark.
Needless to say, I am not a fan of Luce.
On a separate note, let me know if you would be interested in a subscribers only live Q+A. I’d love to interact with you all.
Cheers, and Godspeed!

Great episode. Some creepy stuff in there wrt demonic possession. Also, listening now after the election, it’s fascinating to see the relative quiet compared to the fears we all had of protests and riots. Perhaps the scale of Trump’s victory is the reason, or perhaps the Antifa cells are gathering their strength for their own January 6 insurrection. Anyway, great to see the team back together.
Looking forward to this as used to really enjoy the General Eclectic in its day. Can this episode be turned into a podcast? Some substacks will do this.
